Enniscrone Golf Club is now ranked twentieth in the latest ranking of golf courses in the June 2009 issue of GOLF DIGEST IRELAND. The eight member adjudicating panel consisted of; Declan Brannigan (agronomist and couse designer), Mark Gannon (R & A selector), Michael McCumiskey (secretary PGA Irish region), Garth McGimpsey (former Walker Cup captain), Ada O Suillivan (former Curtis Cup captain), John Quigley (Ass. Irish Golf Club Secretaries), Dermot Gilleece (Editor, Golf Digest Ireland) and chairman, Padraig O hUiginn.
Twenty clubs were selected by the panel that could have possibly made it into the top 10. The panel then voted on these courses using the following guides; shot making/variety, design variety, memorability, condition, playability (all handicaps) and degree of difficulty/fairness. The same procedure was followed throughout the entire 100 positions. The length of the golfcourse was also clearly reflected in choosing the top 100 "where modern technology is posing relentless threat to our best-loved terrain".
Congratulations to all involved with Enniscrone Golf Club on this great achievement in moving up 14 places to get into the top 20 golf courses in the country. While many developments and great progress has been made over the years, splendid work has been carried out over the past few years and more recently in the overall presentation of the course. The new tees on hole 9 (449 yards) and hole 16 ( 545 yards) now gives a course measuring 7033 yards off the back tees.
